"Time to regenerate Jen"
Remembering my strengths, reigniting my creativity, embracing it all.
Time for something new
It’s been a tough year, well five years really. Having spent much of the last few months in quite a tiz, with my energy in a slump and my mind telling me all sorts of untruths, it really is time to regenerate.
Having been inspired by Dr Who for many years, I watched his regeneration this Christmas and decided I needed to do the same. My Tardis has seem a lot of action in the last 5 years: I won a major TV art competition and been exhibiting widely; I republished a book and wrote and published a new book on “boredom”; supported my family through the pandemic, A levels and university; been managing the ongoing care and support of my elderly parents on a daily basis; and survived two marriage breakdowns (same marriage!). From the absolute highs, to the stinky lows, it was the funeral of a friend yesterday that made me think “OK Jen, it’s time”.
A regeneration community?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t see my self as the Doctor, the hero, the one in charge, but I do need to embrace his capacity for personal regeneration and their willingness to express their personality in all its ways. I also know that the principles of regeneration and creativity are desperately needed for other human challenges such as health and social care, education, the arts, politics and “business”. However, its not just the big things, but the small daily things too - they all need re-visioning.
I hope you will join my Substack where I plan to chat, discuss, debate, possibly argue but hopefully always inspire. Seeing things from new perspectives excites me. Discovering new ways of seeing and imagining feeds me. Designing new futures and navigating the possible pathways is down to us all.
What to expect?
Just like an episode of Dr Who, please expect the unexpected. Much as Substack suggests I be specific about what you can expect, it’s not one of my strengths. Roughly speaking, I plan to:
post a new longer written piece every couple of weeks, inviting discussion and debate
keep you up-to-date on what’s happening in my studio
share an episode from our podcast “Alchemical Health” every couple of weeks
offer free resources to everyone such as tools, processes, videos, short courses
offer paid subscribers different opportunities to connect and learn such as online workshops, plus meatier resources (vegan obvs)
Thanks for reading. Please join me on as we regenerate ourselves, our natural world and the systems we have created.
Subscribe now below to follow me :) I’m off back to the TARDIS now but promise the Dr Who theme won’t appear often!
Jen Gash (2022) Before Sutro

great writing Jen. It sounds like you have had a hugely busy time. When you write it all out it seems almost impossible that you’ve managed everything.. I’m with you on the juggling of kids and Uni and elderly parents -the stresses of the sandwich generation. Two marriage breaks ups is very tough though ...
Wishing you a gentler 2024. I love substack for the ability to have more real
conversations than IG offers. I’m behind with my stack ... need to get stacking ! xx
This such a happy discovery! I m so pleased to find you here.
